Hey, it's 5" siding!

So we have been driving around trying to guess which houses have 5" siding... And here it is on our own house! Guess it was meant to have larger siding! We will be using LPSmartside, the smooth surface, for our siding as I can get a great price for it through work. House looks like it is in shambles, but this is just the beginning of demo! And yes, there is lead paint in the outside paint, but thankfully not inside! Tom, our builder for the reno, took care of it as he is certified to remove lead paint. New laws in the US require contractors to take classes on becoming certified in lead paint removal.

We got the go ahead to take the carpeting out... And found maple hardwood floors throughout the house. The 2 rooms without it is the studio and kitchen, where there are asbestos tiles. We have decided to leave them and put new flooring over them as it carries a huge price tag to remove them. The hardwoods we plan to fill in where there are gaps and staples/stains and have them refinished.

The keys for the "munchkin" house

The one key for the little house. The lock has been giving us trouble since the day we first looked at the house. Our realtor, Michelle, could not open the door! Dave worked on getting it open with lots of tugging, jiggling and pulling-- this happened every time until... a few days after the closing the lock mysteriously was very easy to open. Hmmmmm...

Officially Portsmouth Residents!!

We had the closing in today! Even had the Blue Angels flying overhead today at the new house as they were practicing for this weekends air show. What a way to commemorate our closing!

To close, or not to close, that is the question.....

It's been almost 2 months after our initial offer and we are finally going to close on the house tomorrow...or maybe not. It appears there's a few bumps in the road getting there and we may not close tomorrow after all. We shall see in the morning, as it looks now like we probably won't close for another few days. :^(
